Beard transplant

Single and double-hair grafts are placed at very acute angles into sparse or empty beard areas.

In beard transplants, single and double-hair grafts — usually from the back of the scalp — are placed into sparse areas of the cheeks, chin, moustache or sideburns. Because beard hairs emerge at a very acute angle, channel angle and direction are the most important details.

Who is it for?

  • Those with a sparse beard or patchy areas
  • People with areas where scars or burns prevent growth
  • Those who want a more defined beard line

How is it done?

  1. Drawing the beard shape to suit the face.
  2. Harvesting single–double hair grafts from the back of the scalp (often 1,500–3,000, depending on the plan).
  3. Opening channels with very fine tips following natural hair direction.
  4. Placing grafts and facial aftercare instructions.

Recovery

  • Small crusts on the face shed within 5–7 days.
  • No shaving for the first 10 days.
  • Permanent growth from month 3–4; the look settles within 9–12 months.

Limits and risks

  • Scalp hairs may differ from beard hairs in thickness and colour.
  • Temporary redness and swelling of the face may occur.
  • If a scalp transplant is also planned, donor use must be considered together.

Frequently asked

Is a transplanted beard permanent?

Follicles from the back of the scalp are relatively resistant to loss and keep this property after transplantation.
